The Chairman All Progressives Congress (APC), local government congress Appeal Committee in Lagos State, Hon Ibrahim Akaje says his committee is yet to receive petitions from aggrieved factions of the party, on the conduct of the LG congress held across the 245 wards of the 20 local government in the state on September 4.

Addressing newsmen at a press conference at the party secretariat on Thursday in Lagos, Akaje said the mandate of his committee is to arbitrate between petitioners and officials of the party saddled with the conduct of the APC local government areas Congresses.

While announcing that the window for the submission is still open till Saturday, he said, “I want to assure all and sundry that as member of this committee, we shall be impartial, by dispensing justice to all in accordance with the extant laws, rules and guideline as provided in the APC constitution and statuses.

So far, the Committee is yet to receive any petition. It is incumbent, at this juncture, to appeal to all petitioners to feel free, without let or hindrance in presenting their grievances before the committee.

All we demand is that all those with genuine complaints should be decorous in their presentations.

The timeframe for this exercise is between Wednesday, September 22 and Saturday, September 25.”

Speaking further on the procedure for the submission of petitions, he said, “petitioners are to submit petitions to the Secretariat at Acme. Unlike the previous committees, the petitions are lying on the table at the national secretariat. But here, we are waiting for petitions and recommendations that arose from the last local government congress. The essence of this press congress is to send out messages to the general public that APC under Governor Mai Buni Led national caretaker committee, petitions with the aim to addressing any issue that might have arisen from the conduct of the local government congress.”

Also speaking as a moderator at the conference, the spokesman for the party, Hon Seye Oladejo, said “Lagos is not factionalized otherwise this conference will not be held here. And since the committee has said it has received no petitions, that attests to the fact that the local government congress was free, fair and without any rancour.”
