An elder statesman, Dr. Kolo Baba Jiya has appealed to the people of Kwara state to consider the Northern senatorial district of the state for governorship in 2027.
Dr. Kolo Baba Jiya made the call while speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara state council Media parliament with the theme; “Religion, Politics and Kwara2027” held at the Press Center in Ilorin.
He urged residents of the state to shun money politics and vote for credible and competent candidates in 2027 elections.
Baba-Jiya noted that collecting money by electorate from politicians before voting would deny them the dividend of democracy, added that the electorate should make it a duty to always vote with their conscience.
He urged clerics to join politics to enable them to correct the perceived errors made by the politicians based on the religious teachings.
The elder statesman explained that leaving politics to only the politicians is not good enough.
Dr.Baba-Jiya also advised the academicians to use their wealth of experience to guide the electorate to do the right thing.
Earlier in his address of welcome, the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Kwara state council, Mallam Ahmed Abdullateef said even though election is some years away it is necessary to reawaken the electorate.
He added that the programme is aimed at discussing issues affecting the people and proffer solution.
