Three middle-age men, Olanrewaju Hammed (31), Olasukanmi Olusola (36) and Mukaila Shuab Abiola (43) were Wednesday 6th October 2021 arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrate Court Ibadan over the alleged assault of two police officers.

The accused persons were slammed with a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and inflicting bodily injuries on two police officers. They pleaded not guilty to all the charges

According to the charge sheet, the accused persons on 2nd October 2021, at about 8 pm, at Idi-Ayunre Police Station, Ibadan did unlawfully conspired together and seriously assaulted Inspector Olorunyomi Ojo and Police Corporal Okusaga Oluwafemi at the police station. The police prosecutor, Inspector Opaleye Sikiru, the offence was said to be contrary to sections 516, 356(2) and 338 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol.11, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

Chief Magistrate O. O. Ogunkanmi of Court 3 admitted them to bail in the sum of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000.00) only and two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be residents in Ibadan.

The suit was adjourned till 13th December 2021 for commencement of trial. The accused persons are to be remanded in the Correctional Service Centre pending the perfection of their bail, the court ordered.

However, speaking with Rulers’ World at the court premises, the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) of Idi-Ayunre Police Station, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ogunsemi Olusey said that the three men who are residents of Ibeju- Lekki in Lagos State invaded the police station with charms with the intent to burn it down but for the timely intervention of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Eniseyin Toyin.

He further disclosed that the two police officers assaulted and seriously wounded were hospitalised. Inspector Ojo, according to him, was treated and recently discharged, while Police Corporal (PC) Okusaga is still on oxygen in the hospital, he stated.
