Workers under the local government service commission in Oyo state have been told to shun the disturbing dimension of absenteeism, tardiness, lateness to work, in recent times.

Chairman, Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, Mr Aderemi Ayodele sounded this warning during a meeting with Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) across the state, held at State Secretariat, Ibadan, on Monday.

Speaking, he decried the continued erosion of service values and lackadaisical attitude to work, especially by workers across the 33 local government areas and 35 local council development areas in the state.

Ayodele said it was incumbent for workers to return the regular payment of salary by the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration with better performance, acceptable work ethics and due diligence, warning that those non-compliant workers will be sanctioned.

Furthermore, Ayodele cautioned against acts of corruption under the guise of increasing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of their local government areas.

He also enjoined the local government administrators to ensure that every dime generated is appropriately used.

In addition, he warned the HLGAs to shun unnecessary friction with their respective local council Executive Chairmen so as to complement the Makinde government’s efforts at the state level.

Speaking in the same vein, Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, Mr Akin Funmilayo bemoaned that absenteeism, tardiness, lateness had taken a different dimension, with several workers also circumventing the standard operating procedure in service.

He hinted that the commission was currently investigating officials of three local government areas for illegally collecting revenue and circumventing internally generated revenue.

Noting that the Makinde administration had zero tolerance for corruption, Funmilayo assured that all found wanting in fraudulent collection of revenue will be sanctioned.

He harped on due diligence, due process, corruption-free practices, urging local government workers to ensure timely rendition of returns.

Funmilayo wondered why workers were now absenting themselves from work when salaries are not being regularly paid, enjoining them to ensure value for money received.

Some of the HLGAs who spoke at the meeting, gave assurance of better conduct, better performance while also enjoining the commission to always give them fair hearing especially when issues are raised against them by the political class.
