13th African Games: SWAN Hails Wrestling, Weightlifting, Badminton, Table Tennis, Other Team Nigeria’s Performance

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has thumped up team Nigeria for their outstanding performance so far at the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana.

Speaking through a statement by the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, the SWAN President particularly hailed Wrestling, Weightlifting, Badminton, Table Tennis and others for making Nigeria proud.

Nigeria has so far garnered up to 16 gold medals at the Games which have pushed up its standing to second position on the medals’ Table at the end official day 4 of the competition.

“I’m really excited by the performance of Nigerian athletes so far at the competition. Winning 16 gold medals and others in just two days is not a mean feat.

“Truly, they have showed commitment and demonstrated proven patriotism.

“Worthy to note are the three athletes who won three gold medals in Weightlifting. Wow! The feeling is extraordinary, ” he said.

He then urged others still competing in the various sports to follow same trend.

“I believe that the performance of these athletes will certainly ginger others to step up and ink their names in history,” he said.

The SWAN President then commended the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, for his proactive steps and assurances which lifted the spirit of team Nigeria at the continental event.
