Women Urged to Participate in Transport Business

The Chairman, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Kwara branch, Alhaji Abdulrahman Olayinka Onikijipa, has urged  women not to see transportation business as men’s job but for both genders.
Onikijipa, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Ilorin Kwara State on  Friday said most women see transportation business as men’s job and prefer to be wayward than engaging in it.
” Transportation is not strictly for men as thought by some women. It is for both genders.
” Women engaging in transportation business is far better than prostitution. Stop seeing transportation as men’s work.
” We have many women here in Kwara riding taxis, tricycles and okada to earn a living. That is a big kudos to them.
” We also have many women here as executives. They are the path of decision making. We don’t discriminate in our association,” he said .
Onikijipa  warned  unregistered/illegal drivers who formed the habit of carrying passengers to desist from the act added that whoever is caught will be dealt with according to the association constitution.
He said most transporters are fake and not legally registered with the transport union in the state, urged passengers to be vigilant and stop boarding any available car to their destination.
” Be vigilant and go to the park to board a vehicle. Everyone should be conscious of the security situation in the country in order not to fall victim to kidnappers.
” They will take your details in the park; names, phone numbers and next of kin incase of eventuality unlike all the roadside cars,” he said.
The chairman  also disclosed that RTEAN always conducted medical test and sensitization for his members every fortnight in Kwara
” We don’t take risks . We always conduct tests for our drivers every fortnight to access their mental well-being.
” We partner with the Kwara Ministry of Health and some NGO’s to do the needful medically for members,” he said.
He noted that  the medical test is to keep the drivers fit and check their mental status before handling the wheel.
