OYHA Bye Election: Yinka Omikunle Emerges As PDP Candidate

Mr Yinka Omikunle has emerged as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the bye election to be conducted to fill the vacant seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Ibadan South East Constituency II.

Yinka Omikunle emerged as the winner at the primary election conducted today by the PDP at Saint Anne’s School, Molete, Ibadan to pick candidate for the rerun election which will be conducted at a yet to be announced date by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC has 90 days to conduct rerun election from the date that a particular seat becomes vacant and it would be recalled that the said seat was vacant following the death of the member that represented the said constituency, Hon. Olusegun Popoola who died on the 6th July, 2022 at the University College Hospital (UCH) after a protracted illness.

Today’s primary election was witnessed by the representatives of the INEC, police, DSS, the PDP Deputy Chairman (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, State Chairman and Secretary, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro and Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, Special Adviser to Governor Makinde on Culture and Tourism, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige, Chairman Ibadan South East Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Alawode, Chairman Pace Setter Transport Services, Hon. Dare Adeleke and other party stalwarts in attendance.

Meanwhile, Rulers’ World News media has exclusively gathered that another chieftain of the party who also aspired to vie for the seat, Hon. Sunday Babatunde (a.k.a. Omoyin) may be tipped to replace Hon. Yinka Omikunle as the Secretary of Ibadan South Local Council Development Area, the position presently occupy by Omikunle before his emergence as the party’s flagbearer for the rerun election.
