Nigeria, Ghana take rivalry to minifootball quarter-final

The second Africa MiniFootball Cup (AMC) currently holding in the West African city of Ibadan, Nigeria, enters the quarter-final stage with the biggest match-up expected between two African giants, Nigeria and Ghana.

The competition, first hosted by Libya in 2018 with 8 teams participating, was won by Coted’Ivoire.

Nigeria qualified for the quarterfinals with four points. The Spartan Eagles drew 0-0 with Libya in the competition opener, lost 2-3 to Senegal before their hard-fought 3-2 win over Zambia in the last group match.

Ghana, on the other hand, booked a place in the last eight after two wins and one draw at the group stage. Ghana drew 3-3 with Burkina Faso in their first group game before beating title holders, Cote d’Ivoire 3-1, and humiliating Somalia 7-1 in their last group game.

The Chief Coach of the Nigeria Minifootball team, Fabian Edaba, believes that the Spartan Eagles will overcome arch-rivals Ghana in the match expected to come up by 3 pm on Thursday at the Ilaji Sports Resort, Ibadan.

Coach Fabian, speaking to rulers world.com, revealed that a very exciting match should be expected.

“I know the match will not be easy because of the great rivalry between us and Ghana in football. I will expect nothing different in Mini Football too but I confidently say that we will beat Ghana to qualify for the semi-finals. The boys are now highly motivated by the management. Although some of these countries left at this stage have MiniFootball organized leagues in their countries, my boys are getting better every day with this Nations Cup and are roaring to go all the way.”

“I want to thank the Nigeria Minifootball Association Executives, headed by Hon. Oluyemi Adewale Taiwo and all Nigerians for their support and prayers,” the coach concluded.

The competition, 1st hosted by Libya in 2018 with 8 teams participating, was won by Coted’Ivoire.
