My Target Is To Surpass The Record Of My Predecessors ― Akorede, Ibarapa North LG Chairman

Hon. Lateef Lawal Akorede (aka Omo–Oloore) is the Executive Chairman of Ibarapa North Local Government Area, Ayete, Oyo State. In this interview with FEMI OJEDOKUN, he speaks on his plans for the people of the council.

How did you feel when you were declared winner during the last local government election?

I was happy when I was declared winner as the Executive Chairman of Ibarapa North Local Government Area and I want to say, with all sincerity, that my joy knew no bounds. I want to dedicate my victory to Almighty God, the author and the finisher of my faith, and the good people of the council for the confidence they reposed in me and I promise not to disappoint them.

The people of Ibarapa North have been living enjoyable lives since I came on board and I want to assure them that this will continue.

What are your plans for the people of Ibarapa North, including your workers?

I am happy about this question. I have been doing it and they can testify to it. I have many things on my mind for the good people of our council area and before I go into that, my major aim is how I would be successful and do better than all my predecessors and by the grace of God, I will achieve my aim in terms of all-round development across Ibarapa North Local Government Area.

As we have known that Ibarapa North is the food basket of Oyo State, I ensure that agriculture is given priority. I will encourage our farmers through the provision of farm tools. Secondly, education is the best legacy for our children, I will try, with the help of God and assistance from our indefatigable governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to ensure that all residents of the state who are of school age are in school. In the area of infrastructural facilities such as drilling of boreholes, tarring of roads, road grading and so on, all these will receive good attention from our administration.

The major responsibility of any reasonable government is the protection of the lives and properties of its citizens. I have been trying my best with the cooperation of the law enforcement agencies and I will keep it up. In the area of health, an adage says “health is wealth”, I will give priority to the health sector with the help of the Oyo State Ministry of Health. On the aspect of workers’ welfare, I want to commend Governor Makinde for prompt payment of workers’ salaries on the 25th of every month. I want to say that he is the best so far in the history of the present democratic dispensation in Oyo State. He is paying salaries regularly and that impact on their workers’ attitude to work which I can tell you is positive. Kudos to Governor Makinde.

How will you evaluate the administration of Governor Makinde in the last two years?

Honestly, Governor Makinde is the best so far. He is a performing governor and man of his word. Without mincing words, Governor Makinde’s performance compared to previous administrations in Oyo State is second to none, and I want to assure the people of the state that more dividends of democracy from our knowledgeable governor are still on the way.

What will be your message to the people of your local government area in these trying times?

I want to appeal to the people of Ibarapaland to be security conscious. The government of the day is doing everything possible to secure their lives and properties. All that is required of them is to collaborate with the government to keep our domain safe from bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers, and other unscrupulous elements.

Also, I want to encourage the good people of Oyo State to adhere strictly to COVID-19 protocols. The pandemic is not yet over but if all hands are on deck, COVID-19 will become history not only in the state but the country at large.
