Just What Is Lamido Sanusi Up To This Time?

What is really the appropriate appellation for Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the immediate past Emir of Kano, a former Emir, a deposed Emir, or a returning Emir in waiting, (if there is anything like)?

Confusing? Well, what may probably not be confusing is that the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is not favourably disposed towards being referred to as the “former Emir of Kano”.

The erstwhile Chief of Staff (COS) to the governor of Kaduna State, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, learnt this the hard way. At the recently held Kaduna Investment Summit, Mr. Abdullahi referred to Mr. Sanusi, as the “former Emir of Kano” (and I think he spoke stricto sensu). But Mr. Sanusi wouldn’t have any of that.

When it was the turn of Mr. Sanusi to speak, he said: “When I listened to the Chief of Staff…I will call him former Chief of Staff…you will understand why I call you ‘former’ later,” Mr. Sanusi said when he took the microphone at the event. “Next time don’t call me ‘former Emir.’ There is nothing like that. Meanwhile, UNCENSORED scooped that Abdullahi not only apologised to Mr. Sanusi, he equally pleaded with his boss to pardon him for the “error” he committed.

A few hours later, Abdullahi was sacked as the COS by el-Rufai (we all know el-Rufai and Sanusi to be friends).

The poignant question to ask is, does Mr. Sanusi, still want to be addressed as Emir of Kano? Or is there something known only to el-Rufai and Sanusi that other Nigerians don’t yet know?

Only time will tell.
