Crazy cost of waste disposal

The residents of Ibadan, Oyo State, are now lamenting the exorbitant prices suddenly imposed by the waste management contractors in different locations within the metropolis.

The residents lamented that there has been about 500 per cent increase in the fee they are paying for disposing their refuse, stressing that this has added to the already hardship they have been subjected to in recent times.

They however, calling on the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde to immediately look into the issue by regulating the fee being imposed on them by the waste disposal operatives so that the affected residents will not result to finding alternative means of disposing their refuse that may make Ibadan more dirtier that can cause cholera outbreak.

They added that with the heavy downpour, the refuse dumped on the river will block waterways that will cause heavy erosion that can lead to loss of lives and property as experienced in the years past.

While reacting to complaints by The residents, one of the waste management contractors who spoke under the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the high cost of diesel which they were using to fuel the trucks they were using for their operation led to the increase of their service charges. The contractor pleaded with the residents to bear with them.
