The Ekiti State police command has rescued one Segun Alabi from the kidnappers who abducted him in his home in Iye-Ekiti, Ilejemeje local government area of the state.
Alabi who was kidnapped on August 19 was said to have been rescued by the police after weeks of intense tracking of the hideout where he was being kept, saying the abductors fled the scene upon sighting the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Sunday Abutu in a statement on Sunday said the kidnappers called the victim’s family demanding ransom, which he said helped the police to track down the hideout.
According to him, “Upon the receipt of the information, the Rapid Response Squad(RRS) swung into action, trailed the suspected kidnappers to their hideouts and on sighting the RRS operatives, the suspected kidnappers took to their heels, abandoning the victim and two Toyota Camry cars.
“The victim was rescued and the Two abandoned cars recovered while effort is ongoing to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects.”
Also, the police spokesman disclosed that the RRS operatives stormed the popular Atikankan area of the state capital following credible information about activities of some criminals in the place.
Abutu who declared the area as a blackspot in Ado-Ekiti, said, “On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums took to their heels but eventually, one of them identified as Ojo Fadeyi Femi was arrested.
“The scene was searched and items such as 43 wraps of weed suspected to be Indian hemp, 40 wraps of white powder suspected to be cocaine, two sharp cutlasses and fifty two thousand seven hundred and fifty naira (52,750) were recovered.
“The arrested suspect claimed the ownership of the exhibits recovered and also confessed to be a Drugs-Baron, while effort has been activated to arrest the suspects at large.”
The PPRO assured residents of the command’s readiness under the leadership of commissioner of police, Tunde Mobayo to stamp out criminals from the state, soliciting supports on timely and accurate information that would help in apprehending criminal elements.
