Tragedy struck at Aponmu village near Akure, the Ondo State capital on Sunday as an 18-seater bus reportedly plunged into the Owena river in the state.
It was gathered that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has sent in rescue team from its Ondo town Unit Command and Zebra Unit in Akure in search the passengers of the bus.
An eyewitness recounts that the driver of the bus lost control due to over speeding and plunged into the river.
It was further learnt that six passengers have been rescued while four have been pulled out dead.
Witnesses said rocks at the bottom of the river might be responsible for the deaths due to impact.
The incident has been confirmed by the spokesman for the Ondo FRSC, Abiola Fadumo, saying rescue operation was ongoing.
He, however, promised to give updates soon.
