Gunmen invade palace, abduct monarch in Ekiti

Some gunmen, on Thursday evening invaded the palace of Obadu of Ilemeso-Ekiti, Oba David Oyewumi, in the Oye-Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State, and abducted the traditional ruler.

Reports from sources have it that the gunmen invaded the palace at about 8.30pm by scaling the fence before they began to shoot sporadically to scare the occupants.

A source said, “In the process of shooting, they gained entrance into the apartment where the monarch and the members of his family were.

“The way they asked for the monarch showed that they really came for him and not any other person. Immediately they sighted him, they dragged him out of the palace and whisked him away.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident, describing it as a regrettable one.

He said, “Yes, it happened yesterday (Thursday) in his palace.

“Meanwhile, necessary steps are being taken to rescue him and apprehend the culprits.”

“We are on the trail of the abductors,” the PPRO added.

Abutu said the gunmen stormed the palace with assorted guns, traumatised the occupants and kidnapped the monarch.
