Senator Durojaye dies at 88

A leader of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Senator Olabiyi Durojaye has died during a brief illness early this morning at the age of 88, sources have confirmed.

Durojaiye, a former member of the National Assembly, represented Ogun East between 1999-2003 on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

He was until his death a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.

A source informed the Tribune Online that the late politician died in the early hours of Tuesday.

His death came few days after the death of General Adetunji Idowu Olurin.

Durojaiye earned a BSc (Economics) London, and an LLB, London. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1979 and is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

He also graduated from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru. He worked for 35 years in the Nigerian public sector, including 28 years as a Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the National Mint.

He recently served as chairman of the Board of  Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

He worked with the International Monetary Fund, the Federal Reserve System in the U.S.A and the City University London between 1964 and 1982.

He was a former presidential candidate in the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
