The stage is set for the final of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) as the two best teams in the land as at today, Bayelsa Queens and Delta Queens go to battle to determine the number 1 women team in Nigeria.
Sunday’s final which will officially bring to an end the week long Super 6 championship promises to go down to the wire as there is little to separate both sides from the South South side of the country in terms of pedigree, personnel and coaching.
One of the coaches who will be on the touch line in the final, Tosan Blackson of Delta Queens at a press conference 24 hours before the D-day reiterated the club’s desire to emerge victorious in the final as a way to welcome the recently inaugurated Delta Governor into office.
“Delta Queens is here to win the competition and apart from winning this competition, we want to present the trophy to the new Governor. With all what the state Government has done for the team, we can’t afford to lose this trophy”.
“We have planned so much for this moment from the beginning of the season. We are well funded and taken care of and we want to win to show our appreciation to the state. We remain unbeaten all through and tomorrow we want to win the trophy in style and take to the state house”, the coach emphasized.
“Bayelsa Queens are a very good side. We played them during the regular season and saw what they did. Although we won in Yenagoa but it wasn’t easy for us. They came here and had a draw in Asaba. Playing at home isn’t easy for us. We even preferred playing away than at home because most of the matches we won were away. We won three away matches during the regular season. With the standard of the girls now and what we have impacted on them, they know what to do at any given time. We don’t have any pressure playing at home. The girls have given their best. They will play without pressure and win the Super Six”, the coach concluded.
