Two suspected herders were on Monday, 2 August 2021 paraded by the Oyo State Police Command Ibadan for allegedly killing a youth leader in Akinyele Local Government Area, Ibadan.

The two suspected Fulani herders, Usman Mohammed, aged 27, and Umaru Mohammed, aged 16, were alleged to have killed a community youth leader popularly known as Olori Odo. He was killed in Onidundun Village, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The suspects were paraded with thirty-one (31) other suspected criminals at the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ngozi Onadeko, disclosed that on the 9th of July 2021, one Taofeek Olaide ‘m’ received a phone call from one Umaru Mohammed ‘m’ claiming to have several cows to sell on the instruction of his father at Kara Market Akinyele area of Ibadan.

Speaking further, she said that, “Upon the receipt of this call, Taofeek Olaide ‘m’ alongside one Yusuf Taiwo ‘m’ boarded a motorcycle to Akinyele to carry out the supposed business transaction.

Upon the arrival of the two at the agreed spot, they picked up Umaru Mohammed ‘m’ and proceeded to Oni-Dundu village in the Akinyele area where the ranch was supposedly located, not knowing that a kidnap syndicate arranged by Umaru Mohammed was waiting in ambush.

The duo innocently walked into the ambush and was greeted with gunshots leading to the kidnap of Yusuf Taiwo, but his partner, Taofeek Olaide managed to escape.

Upon receipt of information, officers from Moniya Division, in a collaboration with the ambush team of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) immediately swung into action and tactically combed the area which led to the rescue of the kidnapped Yusuf Taiwo who sustained gunshot injury on the thigh from his abductors, and the arrest of some members of this criminal syndicate.

However, it was made known that while these criminal elements took to their heels to evade arrest, they stumbled upon some youths from Oni-Dundun Village and released gunshots at one youth leader who was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

CP. Ngozi made it known that Investigation is on to apprehend the remaining members of this criminal syndicate.
