Stop paying lip service to sports, SAN tells FG, states

paying lip service to sports

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Oluwasina Ogungbade, on Monday, called on federal and state governments to desist from paying lip service to sports.

He said this while speaking with journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The legal practitioner noted that successive governments both at federal and state levels have been paying lip service to sports.

He said this is why a majority of outstanding sportsmen and women in the country are running to other countries to make a living, adding that if properly managed, sports can be used to generate more revenue for the government and reduce social vices.

The legal practitioner regretted that majority of footballers in the country are going to other countries because the government in Nigeria is paying lip service to sports.

He said, “It is a disaster that has been with for a very long time. Successive governments have been paying lip service to sports.

“Sports is a means of livelihood for the sportsmen and women. But, our sportsmen and women have been going to other countries to try their luck. You will see a player from Nigeria playing for another country during competition because the government is not encouraging them.”
