China and France both confirmed their spots for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 in Sydney, while Nigeria can pick the last group ticket with a win against Mali today.
China became the first to join Australia and the USA at the flagship event later this year, moving to 2-0 in Group B in Belgrade thanks to a powerful 84-64 demolition of Mali.
France is now qualified because of their positive point average (+9) in case of a tie with Nigeria and Mali despite losing to Nigeria on Friday.
One last ticket for Sydney is now available between Nigeria and Mali. With a win against Mali, Nigeria will qualify. They will also qualify if they lose by 6 or fewer points if France beats China on Sunday.
Mali will secure qualification by winning by 7 or more points against Nigeria. If they win by less than 7 points, they will need France to beat China to qualify.
The FIBA World Cup will take place in Australia later in the year.
