Not yet Uhuru for Cross River Governor-Elect, Bassey Otu as NNNP’s Wilfred Bonse Heads to Court

The Governorship election may have been held across the country and winners declared but it is surely far from over in Cross-River state as an aggrieved party is already on its way to court.

The candidate representing the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Cross-River state, Amb. Wilfred Bonse has revealed that his party will be suing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ommiting the party’s logo from the ballot papers used for the March 18th election in the state.

A visibly angry but composed Bonse in an exclusive interview with Rulers World disclosed that there was no election in Cross-River as long as the party identification was missing from the papers giving to the voters on election day.

“I am bitter over the conduct of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in my state. I couldn’t even vote for myself. I am the one contesting so if I couldn’t cast the ballot for myself, how could my supporters have voted for me?. We were simply alienated from the election as a whole and that makes a mockery of the whole exercise”, Bonse stated while emphasizing that the party would sue INEC for the wrongful exclusion of its logo from the ballot papers.

“Our lawyers have swung into action and the next you will hear from us is that our case is already in court so this is just the beginning and certainly not the last of this,” Ambassador Bonse concluded.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, Bassey Otu, was declared the Governor-elect having scored the highest number of votes in the 18th March election.

Mr Otu polled 258,619 votes to defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sandy Onor, who scored 179,636 votes.
