Maduka Okoye allays injury fears, set for Eredivise action next week

Maduka Okoye was stretchered off injured against Ajax over the weekend in the Netherlands leaving many scared as the Super Eagles number 1 looked in bad shape as he left the pitch.

The injury sustained by Napoli striker Victor Osimhen a fortnight ago and that of Leon Balogun who has not played for Rangers in their last two matches because of an undisclosed injury is already causing tensions for Nigeria football fans and to now add Okoye may just be one more injury too many to bear.

The Eagles goalkeeper, Okoye was subbed halfway through the 1st half in the Eredivisie clash between Sparta Rotterdam and Ajax Amsterdam.

The Nigeria international was supplanted by Benjamin van Leer leading to a speculated shoulder injury as the former Fortuna Dusseldorf shot-stopper was unable to finish the game at Sparta Stadion.

Okoye fell off awkwardly in a clash with the Ajax Amsterdam number 9 and had to be subbed off in a game that ended in a 0-1 loss for Sparta.

News from the Netherlands however has it that the Nigerian goalkeeper might not be so badly injured.

“Maduka is fine, he should be back in goal for Sparta next weekend against AZ Alkmaar” a source close to the 6ft 6 tall goalkeeper has revealed.

Maduka Okoye is presently the 1st choice in goal for the Super Eagles of Nigeria and he is expected to be in the team for the AFCON kicking off in Cameroon in January.
