Lukaku grabs headlines

Chelsea FC Sunday night emerged the better side in the London derby match with Arsenal, walking away from the Emirates with a 2-0 victory.

Playing away from home in a packed stadium in North London, Chelsea showed a lot of gusto to go 2-0 up by the halfway mark in the first half as a man of the moment, Romelu Lukaku silenced the home fans with a precise tap inside the first quarter of the game.

Reece James soon made it two in the 35th minute of the game, thereby becoming just the second Chelsea player ever to score an assist away from home against Arsenal in the premier league, after Juan Mata.

Bukayo Saka (1) and Granit Xhaka (1) were the only two Arsenal players to create a chance in the first half against Chelsea.

Team captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who missed the first game due to a positive corona-virus result, came into the game early on in the 2nd half for Bukayo Saka but he couldn’t do much except for a tame shot at goal not long after coming on.

Marcos Alonso created more chances than any other player against Arsenal (5) and he was also fouled more times than any other player (3).

Chelsea has now won each of their last five London derbies away from home in the Premier League:

Arsenal have lost their opening two games of a league season for only the third time in the Premier League era; 1992/93, 2018/19, 2021/22

Mikel Arteta the Arsenal coach, suffered his 20th defeat as Arsenal manager in the Premier League, in what was his 60th game.

Man-of-the match, Romelu Lukaku attempted eight shots and created chances on three more occasions against Arsenal – only once before has he been involved in 11+ of his sides’ shots in a Premier League match, for Everton versus West Ham in May 2015.

Arsenal next has a date away at Man City while Chelsea tackles Liverpool.
