JUST IN: Lagos govt suspends NURTW operations indefinitely over Idumota clashes

Following a threat by the President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) that the union’s chapter in Lagos may be suspended, the State Government has suspended the transport union operations around Lagos Island particularly on Church Street, Eyin Eyo, and Idumota bridge indefinitely due to the recent clashes that crippled activities in Idumota axis of the state.

The state government has also deployed the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to patrol the entire area and station an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) on Idumota Bridge to restore sanity around the axis.

Announcing the indefinite suspension of NURTW operations on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, said that the ban was to prevent further acts of violence around Idumota.

Fayinka disclosed that the Lagos State Parks Monitoring Authority would resume at Eyin Eyo axis and coordinate motorists operations at the park.
