Heartland FC players cry out over 9 months unpaid salaries

The players of Nigeria topflight division side, Heartland Football Club, Owerri, are being owed a total of 9 months salaries by the club’s management and this revelation was brought to light following the protest embarked upon by the players.

“The players have been owed salaries since May 2021 up till the present”, “The players and coaches have not been paid their 9 months salaries”, were some of the boldly written words on cardboard as the players stormed the Imo State Government House yesterday.

The protest was engineered by the report that the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, had already signed off the payment of 13 months salaries for the team before the 2021 year ended.

It would be recalled that the present Plateau United coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, in November, disclosed that he was owed N11m by his former club, Heartland FC having spent two seasons at the club before moving to the Jos based team before the start of the new season.

Heartland FC are presently rock bottom in the Nigeria Professional Football League which kicked off a month ago.
