Former NFF President dies

News filtered in this evening that the sporting fraternity in Nigeria has lost a major player.

Former President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Brigadier-General Dominic Oneya (rtd.), is dead.

Omeya, who hailed from the Agbarho Kingdom in Ughelli, it has been reported, died on Thursday morning in his home at Effurun GRA in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

Born on 26 May 1948, the soft-spoken football administrator, who had disappeared from the public glare for some time now, turned 73 years of age a few months ago.

He was the chairman of the NFF between 1999 and 2002 and was also a committee member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

He was a one-time military administrator of Kano and Benue states during the military era.
