Four middle-aged men, Michael Pius (24), Henry Oba Erok (24), Warrior Victor (33) and Ndubuisi Moses (40) were Tuesday, 9th November 2021 arraigned before an Ibadan magistrate court sitting in Iyanganku, Oyo State for allegedly stealing and dealing in infringed copies of copyright work of a film titled “Arobafin”

The four were said to have on 4th of September, 2021 at Akobo, Alariwo shop, Labaowo Ogunpa Ibadan conspired with one another and stole the video film of “Arobafin” valued about Five Million Naira (#5,000,000:00) property of Ayobami Olalekan “M”.

The accused were slammed with three count charges including conspiracy to commit a felony to wit: stealing and dealing in infringing copies of copyright work.

In the charge sheet delineated as MI/1178c/2021, Count 1 read thus: “that you Michael Pius (M) “24”, Henry Oba Erok (M) “24”, Warrior Victor (M) 33 and Ndubuisi Moses (M) “40”, and others now at large, on or about 4th day of September 2021, at Akobo, Alariwo shop, Labaowo Ogunpa Ibadan, in the Ibadan Magisterial District did conspire with one another to commit felony to with stealing and dealing in infringing copies of copyright work and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.”

Count 2 read that: “that you Michael Pius (M), Henry Oba Erok (M), Warrior Victor (M) and Ndubuisi Moses (M), and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, being an agent to one Ayobami Olalekan (M) and other film producers, did steal one video film tilled “Arobafin” valued about Five Million Naira (#5,000,000:00) only property of Ayobami Olalekan (M) and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 399(8)(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo State Nigeria, 2000.”

Count 3 read that: “that you Michael Pius (M), Henry Oba Erok (M), Warrior Victor (M) and Ndubuisi Moses (M), and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did make for sale infringed copies of “Arobafin” video film and exhibit same in the public without the knowledge of the owner, Ayobami Olalekan (M) disregarding the copyright and thereby committed an office contrary to and punishable under Section 491 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, Nigeria 2000.”

The accused persons pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them in the open court.

Ruling on the bail application by their counsel, Chief Magistrate, Mr O.A Hamzat admitted them to bail in the sum of Two Million Naira (N2 Million) only each with two sureties and landed property within the Ibadan.

The matter was adjourned till 12th January, 2022, for commencement of trial.
