Edo Cult War: Eight Kiled as Aiye, Eye Draw Battle line in Benin

Benin-city, Edo State capital is boiling again as youths suspected to be members of two rival cult confratanities are at daggars-drawn with casualties numbering up to eight within the last twenty-four hours.

Investigations revealed that the eight confirmed deaths were at various locations of the city as two were reportedly killed at Ugbowo – Uselu axis of Benin, while Irhirhi, Ogunmwenhi, and Egor axis have one casualty each, making a total of five killed on Wednesday in the clash.

Unconfirmed reports however say three more were killed in the early hours of Thursday in the Egor axis, all at one place and the same time making it a total of eight deaths in twenty-four hours.

While the details of the circumstances surrounding the cult war is yet to be unravelled, watchers are raising questions about the involvement of some members of Edo state government security outfit and its sister volunteer agencies.

All attempts to get the views of the Edo state command of the Nigerian Police proved abortive as calls made to the Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor were unanswered and not returned.
