“We hear the Crescent Sports Club are unbeaten on their home ground. Well, that record comes crashing tomorrow”, the Team Manager of NaijaGunners, Moyosola Niran-Oladunni boldly affirmed to this reporter on the eve of the top of the billing friendly match between homers, Crescent Sports Club of Benin-City and the visiting NaijaGunners of Lagos.
The match, billed for the mega stadium facility of the Crescent Sports Club in Aruogba, off Airport Road in Benin-City, has been tagged the clash of the Titans as both teams are household names in their respective states.
Crescent Sports Club, formed over 40 years ago, is a prestige club in Edo state boasting of the high and mighty in the society from all facet of life as members. A one time Governor of the state, Chief Lucky Igbinedion was one of the founder members while present Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Prof Lawrence Ezemonye, former Secretaries to Edo State Government, Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Matthew Aikhionbare as well as a former president of the NBA, Austin Alegeh (SAN), AIG of police, Wilson Akhiwu (rtd), Business Mogul, Nosa Ebomoyi and a host of others are all Grand Patrons of the club. Michael Uwaejenume Egboh jr, a Medical Doctor and the Delta State Chairman of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) is the Chairman of the club. Majority of the present footballers representing CSC were professionals in their prime with Baldwin Bazuaye, M.O.N, a China 1985 U-16 World Cup Winner and AFCON 1990 silver medalist in Algeria standing out as a poster boy of the club.
NaijaGunners FC on the other hand, though a relatively new club dating back as recently as 2006, looks more modern in nature as the club by name fairly depicts a group of football followers in love with the brand Arsenal, but it remains to be seen if they played like the North London Club presently sitting atop the league in England.
The match is slated for 9.00am as kick off time on Saturday morning.
