Contrary to the wide spread news on the social media that the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba was on fire over the weekend, Rulers World can authoritatively report that nothing of such happened in the Delta state capital.
Speaking over the telephone with our reporter, a Senior Special Adviser on Sports to the Delta State Government, Sam Sodje revealed that the news was totally exaggerated as what happened was a freak accident.
“The Asaba Stadium is undergoing renovation works ahead of the 21st National Sports Festival “DELTA 2022″ to be hosted at the stadium”.
“A welder was working on the roof and a little fire fell on top of condemned roofing sheets on the ground which caught fire. The fire did not affect the main building but the condemned roofing sheets on the ground and it was immediately extinguished by the workers even before the arrival of the state fire service”, Sam Sodje disclosed.
The Ex-international further stated that much of what is flying around is nothing but propaganda and the imagination of mischief makers targeted at rubbishing the image of the Delta State Government.
“I am not a politician but it is just not good for people trying to paint this government bad. Honestly, there’s no problem, people are just out to spoil and criticise everything happening in the stadium and as we know, it is all politics”, the former Reading, Leeds and Charlton Athletic defender insisted.
Sam Sodje ended the conversation by affirming that the Government of Delta state is more than ready to welcome all the athletes, administrators, Journalists and other participants of the National Sports Festival, Delta 2022 to Asaba.
The NSF is billed to commence on November 28th with all the states of the Federation and the FCT participating.
