CAR shock Nigeria, pip Eagles in W/C Qualifier

CAR knock Nigeria’s Super Eagles

A 90th-minute goal was all it took for the Central Africa Republic to send shock waves across Africa as Nigeria tasted defeat at home in a Qatar 2022 World cup qualifier.

The game seemed destined for a goalless draw before CAR’s Karl Namnganda capitalized on a defensive mix-up between Leon Balogun and Troost Ekong to slot home the ball beyond a helpless Uzoho in goal for Nigeria, as silence took over the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

CAR, previously without a win in the group, is now having four points courtesy of an opening day draw at home to Cape Verde who themselves have thrown the pool wide open by beating Liberia 2-1 away earlier today in Accra, Ghana.

Garry Rodrigues had scored a sensational 92nd-minute winner as Cape Verde came from a goal down to beat hosts Liberia 2-1.

The Islanders’ first win of the qualifiers takes them to four points in Group C alongside CAR with two points behind leaders Nigeria while Liberia now occupies the rear with 3 points.

Nigeria next visit CAR in a reverse fixture with the match expected to be played in Cameroun because of the political situation in the Central Africa Republic.
