Balogun, Osimhen on target as Nigeria shock CAR away

Two goals in the first half were all it took for Nigeria to take all three points away in Cameroun against Central Africa Republic (CAR) as Nigeria consolidates her group top place position in the 2022 Qatar World cup African qualification series.

Coming in as wounded lions from the last match against the same CAR which ended in a 0-1 home defeat, the Super Eagles made two changes by bringing in goalkeeper Maduka Okoye for Francis Uzoho while Captain Ahmed Musa replaced Russia based Chidera Ejuke in the starting line-up.

Leon Balogun whose error led to the 90th-minute costly stunner in Lagos, got the party started in the 30th minute through a volley after following through a cross amidst offside shouts by the CAR team.

Victor Osimhen broke the hearts of the home team with a precise tap in off yet another cross this time by the vice captain, Troost Ekong on the stroke of halftime.

The 2nd half witnessed little resistance by the CAR team as Nigeria continued the domination particularly with the introduction of Chidera Ejuke as his mesmerizing moves almost led to a goal for the Super Eagles late on.

Victor Osimhen had a goal cleared off the line after rounding off the goalkeeper in what was the biggest highlight of the 2nd half.

Nigeria still retains the top spot in the group with 9 points while the result between Cape Verde and Liberia is still being expected.
