Awoniyi, Awaziem storm Eagles camp

The Super Eagles camp came alive on the eve of the New Year with two additional players arriving at the Abuja base of the team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroun.

Union Berlin of Germany striker, Taiwo Awoniyi and Turkey-based defender, Chidozie Awaziem increased the number of players in the Super Eagles camp to 7 with more players expected to hit camp on the 1st of January.

The 7 players in camp now are; Chidozie Awaziem(Alayanspor, Turkey), Chidera Ejuke(CSKA Moscow, Russia), Daniel Akpeyi(Kaizer Chiefs, South Africa), Sadiq Umar(UD Almeria, Spain), Olisa Ndah(Orlando Pirates, South Africa), John Noble(Enyimba FC), Taiwo Awoniyi(Union Berlin, Germany).

The England based players have been excused to be with their teams till 3rd January while the late invitees, Henry Onyekuru, Tyrone Ebuehi, Semi Ajayi and Peter Olayinka will also join the team just before departure to Cameroun.

Forwards Victor Osimhen, Emmanuel Dennis and defender Leon Balogun were the latest players to be dropped by the Super Eagles handlers for various reasons from COVID-19 to injuries and club threats.

The 2021 AFCON in Cameroun begins on 9th January with the Super Eagles in action two days later against Egypt.
