Leicester signs former Chelsea defender

Leicester City has signed former Chelsea & Southampton player, Ryan Bertrand on a free transfer.

The two-year deal will see the 31-year-old join Leicester City on a free transfer after seven seasons with Southampton, where he made 240 appearances in all competitions.

Bertrand made his first-team debut as a Chelsea player, where he would help the team lift the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and Emirates FA Cup.

Ryan Bertrand is Leicester City’s third signing of the summer and the defender says “there is no better place to be” than at Leicester City after watching the club’s astonishing rise from afar.

The left-back, who has moved to the King Power Stadium on a free transfer after leaving Southampton, first played against City in 2008 during a loan spell at Norwich from Chelsea. That year, City were relegated to the third tier and the club’s lowest-ever level.

Since then, City “have built something amazing”, Bertrand says, and are now challenging for honours domestically and in Europe.

The England international wants to help the club continue on its upward trajectory.

“It feels amazing,” the 31-year-old told the club after signing a two-year deal on Thursday. “I’ve had the first day today but I’m looking forward to getting started properly with the lads and I can’t wait.
