Arsenal completes Saliba Marseille deal

William Saliba has signed for Olympique Marseille from Arsenal on loan until June 2022 with a no-buy option included.

William Saliba joined Arsenal in 2019 but has now gone on his third loan spell in France. The 20-year-old centre-back spent six months on loan at Nice last season, making 22 appearances.

The French Youth International was expected to be a direct replacement for departing David Luis at Arsenal but obviously, Mikel Arteta has got other plans.

Arsenal signed Saliba from Saint-Etienne for a fee in the region of £27m back in 2019 but was then loaned back to the French club for the 2019/20 campaign.

With this move, it is now crystal clear that Brighton and Holves Albion defender, Ben White is the premium target for Arsenal. The gunners remain hopeful a deal can be struck for the 23-year-old centre-back, who was part of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad after making his international debut just before the tournament.

Brighton has already rejected two bids of £40 and £47 million from Arsenal.
