An internet fraudster, Tosin Adewale (M) was today Friday, 22th of October 2021. sentenced to six months of community service by an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan.
Justice Bayo Taiwo sentenced Adewale to community service within the court premises following his plea of guilty to the charge of defrauding an American, Lylian Zamarippa of the sum of Two Thousand, Four Hundred Dollars ($2,400) only while pretending to be a female with the name, Zielone Nyson.
Justice Taiwo ruled that the convict must commence community service by 8. am to 12. p.m every working day, with a warning that the convict would serve two years imprisonment if he fails to show up for the service or arrived late on any of the days, even if it occurred on the last day of the service.
Justice Taiwo also held that the convict must refund the sum of the Two Thousand, Four Hundred Dollars ($2,400) to the victim of the criminal act and forfeit the proceed of the crime including his SUV, laptop and iPhone to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Festus Ojo had earlier informed the court that the convict committed the offence between February 2020 and January 2021.
Ojo said the convict had entered a plea bargain agreement with the Commission and urged the court to enter it as a judgment of the court.
Defence counsel, Mr M.A. Rufai, had pleaded with the court to convert the sentence to non-custodian or an option of fine.
