Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offences Court Ikeja, Lagos State today Tuesday 5th October 2021, sentenced one Aniedo Chuka Ricardo to six months in prison with an option of fine for Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000.00) only.
Delivering her sentencing following the acceptance of guilt by the defendant of the one-count charge, the judge proclaimed: ” I hereby find the defendant guilty as charged”
Defence counsel A.O Akuye pleaded with the court to show mercy to the defendant “My Lord, we had a long discussion with my client. The defendant is a first time offender. I Humbly pray for the defendant to be given an option of fine”
While delivering her judgement, Justice Taiwo held that: “I have considered the allocutus of the defence counsel. I hereby sentence the defendant to six months in prison or an option of a fine of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000.00) only.
The prosecuting counsel for the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), C.C Okezie stated that the defendant sometime in 2011 in Lagos had in his possession a document containing false pretence held himself as “Lisa Avatar” to one “Doreen” which he knew to be false.
