Weightlifting Makes it Medal Number 4 for Nigeria as Yusuf Adebukola Wins Bronze in Birmingham

Yusuf Islamiyat Adebukola has won a Bronze medal in the 64kg Weightlifting class for Nigeria on Monday evening.

Competing in the 64kg class, the 19 year old recorded a total of 212 kg lift to finish in 3rd place behind Australia’s Cochran Sarah Mauree who finished 2nd and Charron Maude from Canada, the 1st place finisher.

The Nigerian lifted 93kg in the Snatch while she recorded 119kg in the Clean & Jack to record a Total of 212kg.

The gold went to Charron Maude from Canada, born1993, who recorded 101kg in the snatch, 130kg in the Clean & Jack for a Total of 231kg.

Charron Maude is the reigning Olympic champion.

Dr Ibrahim Abdul, the Weightlifting Federation of Nigeria President couldn’t hide his happiness when approached after the contest.

“I am very happy and very proud. I told you members of the media what was coming and you can see it has come to pass. Please expect more”, the President concluded.

More Weightlifters are set to continue their quest for medals for Nigeria on Tuesday.
