Tragic Road Accident Claims 19 Lives, 5 Injures in Kwara

 

A heartbreaking accident occurred on Thursday evening in Kanbi village, Kwara State, resulting in the deaths of 19 people and injuries to five others.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. on the new Jebba Road, involving a blue Iveco trailer without a registration number and a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number LSD363YE.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, confirmed the accident, attributing it to reckless driving, excessive speed, and wrongful overtaking.

A total of 25 individuals were involved in the crash, including 13 male adults, five female adults, two female children, and five male children.

The injured victims, three male adults and two female adults, were taken to Orisun Ayo Hospital for treatment.

Tragically, 19 people lost their lives: 11 male adults, three female adults, three male children, and two female children.

One corpse was deposited at Orisun Ayo Hospital morgue, while the remaining 18 bodies were claimed by the families of the deceased.

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed deep concern over the reckless driving habits that have led to such loss of life and property destruction.

He directed commanding officers to intensify special patrol operations to curb speeding and wrongful overtaking.

In his statement, Mohammed emphasized the need for drastic measures to reduce road carnage and urged drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
