To achieve in life, focus on your studies – Ace musician, Sola Allison admonishes Ibadan poly students

A popular Nigerian female artiste, Sola Allison has admonished students of the Department of Music Technology of the Polytechnic Ibadan, to concentrate fully on their

studies and avoid anything capable of causing a distraction while on campus.

Sola Allison stated this Thursday (today) while speaking as the Guest Speaker at a career talk organised by the management of the department for music students. She stressed that concentrating on their study was the only way to discover their hidden talents.

Allison, a Higher National Diploma (HND) graduate of the school and one of the best students produced by the department, recalled that during her studentship, she put in her best and that was the starting point of the success she has recorded today as a musician.

The gospel act enjoined the students not to see their admission into the department as a mistake but rather an opportunity to be unique that is poised to make waves and impact society positively through their chosen career.

“I did not want to study music from the outset. I wanted to study Law or English but I came here in 1997 when one Baba Adetiran advised me to study music. I asked him what I could do with a certificate in music, he gave me a list of things I could do, I believed him and that was all. What I learnt at the department has been helping me so far and I never regretted being a professional musician.”

Speaking with Rulers’ World shortly after the event, Sola Allison disclosed that it was nostalgic to be back at the department after many years and still see the department running smoothly.

She advised the students to persevere, listen to what their lecturers teach them, make use of it and go out there to make the department proud.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Mr Soladoye Adewole, appreciated the management of the department for bringing an alumna of the institution back to give lectures to the students. He urged the students to emulate her and be good ambassadors of the institution anywhere they go.

The highlight of the programme was the rendition of one of Sola Allison’s albums titled ‘Egbeje Fori’ by students of the department to entertain guests.

Other guests at the event include the Head of Department, Dr Rotimi; Mr Wole Omofadipe, Prince Abiodun, Mrs Kehinde Faniyi, a lecturer at the department and Mrs Badamosi Adenike among others.
