No fewer than 66 people have been reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be bandits during an attack in the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The latest attack by the bandits was disclosed by the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nafiu Abubakar, on Saturday.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the massacre occurred on Thursday in eight villages of the council.
He stated that though the police were still counting the number of the dead, the state police command had already dispatched a detachment of the officers and operatives of the police force to the area.
“The killing took place in Koro, kimpi, Gaya, Dimi, Zutu, Rafin Gora, and Iguenge villages, all in Danko/Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State,” the police spokesman said.
It was further gathered that the majority of the residents of the affected villages have escaped to the nearby town of Riba for safety.
