Remo Stars banished to Akure, to pay N1.3m for breaching NNL governance code

The Appeals Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has fined Remo Stars Football Club of Ikene the sum of one million, three hundred thousand naira (N1,300,000.00) only for various breaches of the rule of the Nigeria National League (NNL) 2020/2021 season.

The Barrister Ibrahim Eddy Mark-led Appeal’s Committee rose from its sitting Thursday, 14 July 2021 with decisions on the appeal lodged by Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin in respect of their group B2, week 21 clash which was held at the Remo Stadium, Ikene, Ogun State, on the 6th of June, 2021.

A breakdown of the financial charges show that:

  • Remo are to pay the sum of two hundred thousand naira (N200,000.00) only      representing damages to the camera and phones belonging to the officials of Bendel Insurance.
  • The sum of five hundred thousand naira (N500, 000.00) only as cost for nominal damage (medical bills) for the injuries inflicted on the players and officials of Bendel Insurance.
  • One hundred thousand naira (N100,000.00) only for damages to the Bus of Bendel Insurance
  • Five hundred naira (500,000.00) only for encroachment and breach of Covid-19 protocols by supporters of Remo Stars.

All monies (fines) must be paid by Remo before their next home game.

The Appeals Committee, in addition, ruled that Remo be banished to the Akure Township Stadium, Ondo State for only one match.

Conversely, Bendel Insurance received a warning to desist from acts/conducts likely to bring the game of football to disrepute through the use of social and mainstream media to address their grievances, if any.

Bendel Insurance is liable to be sanctioned in the event they breach the warning.
