Protesters block Abuja-Kaduna expressway over incessant kidnapping

Protesters, in the early hours of Monday, blocked the Gauraka Abuja-Kaduna expressway in the Tarfa Local Government Area of Niger State over incessant kidnapping on the highway.

The protesters alleged that the kidnappers have been operating in the community on a daily basis and abducted many residents.

It was gathered that the aggrieved residents blocked the highway with bonfires, stones, and wood, causing gridlock on the busy expressway after they insisted that nobody will pass until the government addresses the issue of insecurity in the area.

The angry residents further alleged that bandits have been abducting people from house to house without any intervention by the security agents in the area.

It was learnt that despite the presence of the military barracks (Zuma Barracks) in the area, the residents have been helpless as they alleged that the community remains prone to attack by assailants.

There were no security agents on the ground to restore law and order in the area as of the time of writing this report.
