POS At Police Stations

POS At Police Stations

I don’t know how many of us have noticed that the Point Of Sale (POS) operation now provides service in and around a number of our police stations in the country. The question arises as to what business are policemen and women doing that requires them to have the presence of POS within arm’s length? A million naira questions, no doubt.

UNCENSORED was appalled during a random visit to several police stations both in Lagos and Ogun States where it was confronted with the ugly scene. A discreet investigation revealed that the arrangement was put in place to enable detained suspects to “perfect their bail” and also to cater for complainants and accused who may want to give the excuse of not having cash to “settle” police officers.

It was also scooped that the initiative was arrived at to exonerate officers who may be subjected to probe if the bubble burst in the commission of the grievous offence of giving and taking of a bribe. An officer who spoke with UNCENSORED on condition of anonymity said: “aren’t you aware that some officers have in the past been apprehended simply because monies were transferred into their accounts by persons who later report such incidents to senior officers or post it on social media?

“In this instance, no such traces can be made. Anybody can withdraw money from any POS whether situated inside a police station or not. Anyone who wishes to make a case out of says he bribed a police officer using POS would have an uphill task doing that.”

Call it a step ahead of the law and you may not be wrong.
