The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council has condemned the wanton killings in Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by its Chairman, Ademola Babalola, and Secretary, Sola Oladapo.

The union, in the statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Ibadan, described the killings as inhuman, cruel, and barbaric.

It called on security agencies in the state, both uniformed and ununiformed, to be more proactive in tackling the ugly trend.

The NUJ further stated that the actions were avoidable if appropriate authorities evolved adequate measures and acts in time on the intelligence information at their disposals.

The union, therefore, called on both the federal and state governments to put in place adequate measures aimed at forestalling the ugly trend, as citizens live in palpable fears with a daily spike in bloodletting across the land.

It sympathised with victims of the dastardly act, even as it called on the government to ensure they are adequately compensated for their losses.

The NUJ called for the convocation of a security summit in the state aimed at finding a lasting solution to the ugly trend.

It also admonished those in authorities to be more alive to their responsibilities of safe-guiding lives and property of the people.
