NWFL Super 6: Rivers Angels, Delta Queens in Early Lead

The 1st day of the Women Super 6 championship currently taking place in Asaba, Delta State threw up some Interesting results as Rivers Angels and Delta Queens recorded victories in their respective matches.

The first game, witnessed Rivers Angels scoring a goal in each half through Chiamaka Okwuchukwu in the 36th minute and Adaobi Okah in the 79th minute to turn back FC Robo 2-0 in a highly entertaining encounter played under the rain but in a perfect pitch condition benefitting from a good drainage system.

The 2nd game involved the host Delta Queens and Confluence Queens of Kogi, a match which attracted a fairly large gathering as the Asaba fans threw their all behind their darling team, Delta Queens.

The home girls didn’t disappoint either as Ekpenyong Effiom rammed home the opener in the 19th minute after a brilliant exchange with her team mate, a beauty of a goal, much to the delight of the Delta State Government delegation, led by the Sports Commission Chairman, Tonobok Okowa.

Little did we know we were in for a much better finish as Peter Martha intelligently lobbed the ball over the Delta Queens goal keeper who was way off her line to register the equalizer for Confluence Queens but the celebration did not last long as Samuel Vera restored the host lead in the 34h minute.

The last goal of the game didn’t come until the 90th minute as Ekpenyong Effiom was back on the score sheet after a goal mouth scrabble to finally confirm the 3 points at stake was going the way of Delta Queens. Final scoreline stood at 3-1 in fvour of the homers.

Day 2 of the NWFL Super 6 championship continues on Wednesday with Bayelsa Queens taking on FC Robo, a must not lose game for the Lagos side while the same applies to Confluence Queens when they square up against Edo Queens in the 2nd game of the day.
