NPC to Collaborate With Media for Census 2023

The National population Commission (NPC ) says it will collaborate with all stakeholders in the media to ensure adequate dissemination of information and remove misconception concerning the 2023 population and housing Census exercise.

The National Population Commission,(NPC) Federal Commissioner, in Kwara State Alhaji Abdulrasak Gidado stated this while declariing open a one -day state capacity building workshop for members of the state Publicity Committee for 2023 population and housing Census organized by the the National Population Commission in Ilorin, Kwara State.

According to him the aim of the training is to ensure a broad based national support and cooperation for the implementation of the activities of the National Population Commission.

Alhaji Gidado said the training will also help to equip members of the media with the necessary knowledge and skills to educate people at the grassroot on the importance of the 2023 population and housing Census.

” Census is a technical exercise with distinct terminology. Members are expected to have a deeper understanding of the Census Methodology in order to effectively sensitise and mobilize the people for the 2023 census”.

He enjoined participants to farmiliarize themselves with technical processes of the conduct of the 2023 Census and other activities of the Commission inorder to forge the much needed national consensus and handle any bias or prejudice arising from the outcome of the exercise.

In his good will message the Director ,National Orientation Agency( NOA) Kwara State Directorate , Mr Olusegun Adeyemi said the capacity building would enable the participants englighthen the people on the forthcomig census exercise and change the narrative where there is misrepresentation.

He noted that the agency will collaborate with the commission in disseminating information to the people at the grassroot.

In their separate remarks ,the representatives of Council of Ulama ,and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kwara State ,Professor Hamzat Abdulraheem ,and Barrister Shina Ibiyemi expressed their readiness to carry the message of census to those concern .

Earlier in his address the Deputy governor of Kwara state , Mr Kayode Alabi represented by the state commissioner for communication ,Abubakar Buhari urged the participants to make good use of the training acquired to ensure success of the 2023 population and housing census.END
