Nigerian Professor, Bosede Afolabi wins N958m Bill and Melinda Gates research grant

A professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Bosede Afolabi has been awarded a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation research grant of $2,518,474.00. 

Afolabi was awarded the N958 million for her project, titled Intravenous Versus Oral Iron for Iron Deficiency Anaemia in Pregnant Nigerian Women (IVON). 

Afolabi is internationally recognized for her research in sickle cell pregnancy, with with interests in maternal and fetal medicine, minimal access (laparoscopic) surgery and medical education. 

She is a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK, West African College of Surgeons, and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
