MFM FC ― When Football No Longer Win Souls For Christ

When Football No Longer Win

Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club is the brainchild of the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, the firebrand Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya. The club was founded in 2007.

In an interview with a national newspaper in June 2014, Dr Olukoya has this to say about the formation of the club: “It is part of our 70-point agenda in Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, which is to reposition the youths of this generation for Christ Jesus, using sport as a tool.

“We all know the power of sports in the world and so we are taking advantage of the power of football and other sports to win souls into God’s kingdom. We are not using only football; there are other sports like athletics, basketball and table tennis.

“As I said earlier, the motivation is following God’s instruction to rescue youths of this generation from the grip of Satan. This is a very serious issue that has to be addressed as quickly as possible. So, it’s God’s mandate for us at the MFM and there’s no going back and He’s helping us”.

Since coming on board the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), MFC FC has, in fulfilment of the mandate of its owners, maintained respectable standing on the league table thereby drawing teeming youths to it. Although it has not been fortunate enough to win the league, it has at different times occupied the summit of the table, particularly at the inception of new sessions. It has however never been able to sustain such to the end. Its best performance yet was a second-place finish in the 2017 league session.

Having finished in an unprecedented second place, just four points behind eventual champions Plateau United, in 2017, the “Olukoya Boys’ expectations couldn’t be any higher as they participated in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League in 2018 alongside the “Peace Boys”. Neither made it to the group stage of the competition.

That was then. At the moment, the club appears unable to achieve its core mandate of winning souls. Never has the club had it this bad since coming on board 15 years ago. MFM FC presently occupies the bottom of the league table having recorded a paltry 3 wins, 2 draws and 9 losses in 14 league matches. It has, in the process, garnered soul-depressing 11 points.

In a recent statement, the management of the club refuted claims that it has terminated the contract of its Technical Adviser, Sola Balogun. “The recent poor run of results has been a major worry for the management, hence we decided to redeploy members of the technical crew before a major decision will be made.”

UNCENSORED has not been opportune to watch the Lagos club play lately, hence will not be able to say if it is still in the business of soul-winning, despite these string of losses.
