An international Cardiovascular Surgeon, Dr. Azeez Popoola Adeduntan has alleged that the Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde has a penchant for rewarding good with bad.
Dr Adeduntan who is the Osi Bashorun of Ibadan land made the allegation today in his speech he made while rejoining the All Progressives Congress at the party State Secretariat, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
Recall that Dr. Adeduntan defected to PDP on 23rd of February 2023 few weeks to Oyo state gubernatorial election with his supporters owing to the fraudulent primaries allegedly conducted by the APC to pick its candidates especially for the gubernatorial ticket in Oyo State.
Dr Adeduntan stated that though the defection was against his wish and desire it was in response to the calls from emissaries of Governor Makinde to support his second term ambition in a highly contested election where he (Adeduntan) was also an APC cleared aspirant.
His words: “I and my supporters ignored the calls not to support Makinde, because of our beliefs in the admonition of Almighty God, that you don’t judge people by third party information, but by your own personal interactions.
Additionally, we were also members of PDP G7 together in 2015 – a fact not known to noise makers and beneficiaries of the PDP government at this time.
To this end, I and my supporters defended him from Oyo and defended him from the Oyo State Muslim community, who were angry with him; because of his anti-islamic behaviour and perceived favouritism to Christians – moving from one media house and one mosque to the others at great cost.
We also defended him from the onslaught of a former Governor, a former Deputy Governor; who were hell bent on not allowing him to return back to the Government House for a second term; because of his “character” and penchant – “for rewarding good with bad.”
The same feelings above were expressed to me by two former south west nigeria federal ministers and multiple calls from all over the country – ADEDUNTAN; please don’t support this man.
We supported Makinde during ‘political injury time’ – the most important inflection point in any game or electoral process- when it was convenient for political safety to keep quiet as was done by his supporters until I spoke. They all lost their voices and “in hibernation”.
Sadly though, we have now seen what they saw in him, that Makinde does not like people with superior intellect, but minions, who are servile and obedient. No wonder, the standard of governance in Oyo State has plummeted from ministry to ministry; and from MDA to MDA because of baseless reliance on old men he calls youths, instead of a combination of youths, age, ability and experienced politicians…
In light of the above, we are out of Oyo State PDP today; under the leadership of Governor Makinde and back to APC today – June 12th 2024 – Nigeria Democracy Day.
We believe in Almighty God and have unshakable faith in him, that divine intervention will intercede on my behalf in my several years quest to lead and serve Oyo State and our Nation Nigeria, notwithstanding our comfort zones and opportunities in the USA and the western world.” Adeduntan enthused.
Adeduntan who stressed further that with his reunion in APC he was ready to join forces with other “generals” in APC in all the geo political zones to wrestle power with Seyi Makinde PDP government and ensure that APC returns to Agodi government house in 2027.
While welcoming Dr Adeduntan and his supporters back to the APC fold on behalf of the party’s State Chairman, Barr. Issac Ajiboye Omodewu, the Oyo South Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Mojeed Olaoya said he was full of joy when he heard that Adeduntan was coming back to the APC, adding that he was sure Adeduntan will do everything humanly possible for APC to take the mantle of leadership in Oyo State come 2027.
Those present to receive Dr Adeduntan and his supporters were the party’s State Secretary, Prince Tajudeen Olanite, State Women Leader, Alhaja Tinuade Adigun, State Youth Leader, Prince John Aremu, Treasurer, Alhaji Olalekan Mikailo, Oyo Central Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Joshua Oyebamiji and the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare and others.
