Kwara, The Headquarters Of Ritual Killings In Nigeria

I don’t know how many of us have noticed that hardly a week goes by these days without a report of ritual killing in the North-Central state of Kwara?

An abode of crossbreed Yorubas and Hausa/Fulanis, Islamic religion takes precedence having been historically conquered by the rampaging forces of Usman Dan Fodio between1804 and 1808. Little wonder then that most of the heinous crimes are perpetrated by Islamic clerics.

Earlier in the year the former Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Lawal Bagega, informed the world of the arrest of four suspects in connection with the ritual killing of a staff of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, one Olokose Oluwasola Ojo, six days to his wedding.

The police commissioner stated that the ring leader and the victim’s next-door neighbour confessed that he killed his friend, removed his head and arms, and used them for money ritual.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP, Ajayi Okasanmi the names of the suspects are Muhammed Kazeem Belwa, the ring leader and the victim’s next-door neighbour and friend, Mohammad Chatta, Jimoh Abdulateef and Madi Jeremiah.

Earlier in September, there was a report of the killing of a sex worker in Patigi Local Government Area an of the state. The police on that occasion arrested five suspects The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Okasanmi Ajayi identified the suspects as Samuel Peter Tsado, Mohammed Gbara, Abubakar Mohammed, Mohammed Ahmadu Nma and Bala Karin.

According to him, the victim identified as Abigail was lured from the hotel where she worked, taken to the home of one of the suspects before she was beheaded for money ritual purposes.

Only a few days ago another case of ritual killing was reported in the state. The state Police Command announced the arrest of two suspected ritualists, Femi Adeniji and Shittu Abdulmalik, with a fresh human head in Amuyo Area, Offa.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), SP Ajayi Okasanmi the command said that the first suspect (Adeniji), kidnapped one Rianat Yusuf of the same area and he severed the two hands and the head of the victim and dumped her lifeless body in an uncompleted building in Amuyo

The list is indeed non-exhaustive but what is of concern to UNCENSORED is what gives perpetrators of this heinous crime the impression (or even assurance) that they could be as wealthy as Alhaji Aliko Dangote or even Mr Femi Otedola if they toed this ignoble and condemnable line?
